The Man Of Steel Finally Shows Up In The Justice League Poster!

Well, look who we have here. After a handful of posters and a whole lot of marketing material that has largely ignored the Man of Steel, Superman has officially arrived on a brand new poster for Justice League. Not only that, but a new trailer for the Justice League movie is also going to be arriving next month during San Diego Comic-Con!

The folks over at DC Extended Universe have unveiled what looks to be an official poster for Justice League which, unlike previous posters, actually features Superman. Unfortunately, he isn’t rocking the black costume, which has been teased by Henry Cavill in the past, but this doesn’t necessarily rule it out, either. The caption for the photo also claims that the second official trailer for the Justice League movie is going to debut at San Diego Comic-Con during Warner Bros. Hall H presentation on Saturday, July 22. Here’s what they had to say about it:

“Breaking News! #JusticeLeague Official Trailer 2 to debut at Comic-Con, Saturday, July 22!

So mark your calendars, DC fans! Justice League starring Cavill alongside Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher hits theatres on November 17th, 2017!

Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm Is Coming To Blu Ray!

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, one of the most beloved stories in the history of the Dark Knight, is finally getting a proper Blu-ray release. Long hailed as a crowning achievement in Batman’s storied history, Mask of the Phantasm (an extension of the much beloved Batman: The Animated Series) tells the tale of a mysterious, reaper-like new villain, the Phantasm, who is systematically killing off a select group of Gotham’s mob. Batman is tasked with stopping the Phantasm and attempting to ascertain their motives. At the same time, a figure from Bruce Wayne’s past, Andrea Beaumont, returns to Gotham, leading to Bruce reminiscing on their romance and its direct effect on his origins as Batman.

Announced by Warner Archive Collection via Facebook and Twitter, the film is getting a full 1080p HD remaster next month and will be presented in both its original theatrical 16×9 aspect ratio and open matte 4×3. No word yet on extras beyond the theatrical trailer. What I know FOR CERTAIN is that this is going to be a day one pick up for me!

Holy Batmobile, Lightning!

Disney Pixar races into theaters this weekend with the highly-anticipated Cars 3, which is expected to come away with an easy box office win. The animated sequel continues the adventures of the iconic racer Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), who will face a new crop of younger racers. While doing press for the movie, Cars 3 director Brian Fee, who makes his directorial debut after serving as a storyboard artist on the first two Cars movies, revealed that there was almost a scene where Lightning McQueen got to meet two of the Batmobiles!

Screen Junkies News caught up with Brian Fee, who was asked if any actual car companies have approached them about putting some of their real cars in the movie. While he wouldn’t mention any specifics, the director did say that they make deals with car companies, but they all don’t want their cars to be a villain. The director also shared that there was a scene they were planning early on in the movie that didn’t make the final cut, which took Lightning McQueen to Los Angeles, where he got to meet some celebrities. Here’s what the director had to say about this scene below.

“We had a scene early on that didn’t make it into the film, because the story evolved away from it, but we had, at one point, part of the story took place in L.A. And we had a scene where McQueen went to a Hollywood hills party and it was full of actors, and we had the old Batmobile and the new Batmobile talking to each other at a party. They were the actors of the world.”

Unfortunately, the director didn’t say who they were planning on getting to voice these Batmobile characters, since the entire L.A. section of the Cars 3 story was ultimately scrapped. If Pixar decides to move forward with a Cars 4, it’s possible that this L.A. portion of the story could be resurrected for that sequel, but it’s too early to tell if Pixar will move forward with another installment. Then again, with the movie expected to open big this weekend, it wouldn’t be surprising if a fourth Cars movie is announced soon, perhaps even next week!

Old VHS Tapes Get Turned Into Art!

France-based artists Patrick Massobrio and Nan take the long forgotten VHS tape and breathe new life (or death) into them.

Long before Netflix, streaming, and even DVDs, there was the VHS tape, which are now sitting in landfills by the tons or at the thrift store. The bulky tapes didn’t offer much in the way of fidelity, but they were a tangible item to hold in your hand to see the cover art and read the synopsis of the movie. It didn’t take long for the smaller DVD, promising crisp visuals and unparalleled sonic capabilities, to wipe the VHS completely out of favor.

But now Massobrio and Nan have taken the VHS tape and repurposed it as a canvas for their art. Massobrio takes the tapes and paints iconic horror villains and other movie characters on to the tape, utilizing the guideposts as eyes for his renditions. He then affixes the tape to a painting of the character’s body on a normal canvas and the effect is totally creative and a little reminiscent of The Garbage Pail Kids. Most of the paintings read Video Home Slasher underneath the character, which of course is a play on Video Home System.

The horror characters that Massobrio and Nan have tackled include Pennywise the Clown from IT,

Pinhead from Hellraiser,

Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street,

Michael Myers from Halloween,

Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th,

and even characters that are not necessarily from the horror genre….

Massobrio has also created his own unique versions of Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Tim Curry from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and the Ghostbusters. Each one is done in Massobrio’s highly identifiable style that makes the characters almost seem cute in a perverse way. You can see for yourself over at their official site !

Burt Ward And Julie Newmar React To Adam West’s Death

Many of Adam West’s peers have written thoughtful statements on his passing, including his two Batman co-stars.

Burt Ward and Julie Newmar played starred in Batman as Robin and Catwoman respectively. They’ve each penned tributes to Adam West, which reflect on the legend’s life.

While Batman only ran for a few years, Adam West and Burt Ward’s friendship lasted throughout the years and various appearances together. Burt Ward wrote, “I am devastated at the loss of one my very dearest friends. Adam and I had a special friendship for more than 50 years. We shared some of the most fun times of our lives together. Our families have deep love and respect for each other. This is a terribly unexpected loss of my lifelong friend. I will forever miss him. There are several fine actors who have portrayed Batman in films. In my eyes, there was only one real Batman that is and always will be Adam West. He was truly the Bright Night.”

Variety has also curated Julie Newmar’s official statement regarding Adam West’s passing. Newmar was the original Catwoman, although Eartha Kitt eventually took over the role in the show’s final season, and Newmar didn’t appear in the film. She said, “Stellar, exemplar, a king to the end. He was bright, witty and fun to work with. I will miss him in the physical world and savor him always in the world of imagination and creativity. He meant so much to people. A friend said: ‘The father that we wanted.’ That is a great gift, no matter how you live it.”
